Another late birthday gift & I’m #NowSpinning the #MobileFidelity reissue of #ThisYearsModel by #ElvisCostello & the Attractions.

This is probably my 2nd favourite of the Costello albums, but contains my favourite song, ‘This Year’s Girl’, which is just glorious.

I’ve compared the #MoFi & it is easily bettered by the 1st UK Porky Prime cut. The MoFi’s too refined, lacks bite & is less cohesive, whereas the 1st UK kicks ass: as it should.

Bank Holiday weekend & I’m #NowSpinning a new arrival: #ThisYearsModel by #ElvisCostello, a kind recommendation from @MisterStars72 & @dnanian

I deliberately avoided listening to this until I had the record in hand. I’ve now made it through, am relistening, & I like it a lot. As with the first album, it’s a great marriage of pop sensibilities & edgy - even spiky - rock.

This Year’s Girl & Pump It Up are standouts on an early listen.

The newly formed Attractions helped Costello streamline his sound as Nick Lowe’s production kept things clean and concise. “Pump It Up” is the sure-fire stomper, but “Little Triggers” is one of Costello’s classic ballads, and “Radio Radio” (found on all but early UK pressings) is one of rock’s great diss anthems. The LP that established Elvis Costello as a voice to reckon with.
