Am 27. Januar 1880, heute vor 143 Jahren, erhielt Thomas Alva Edison das Patent auf die Glühlampe.
Bereits 1801 hatte Louis Jacques Thénard gezeigt, dass Metalldrähte durch Strom zur Glut gebracht werden können und 1835 stellte James Bowman Lindsay eine Lampe vor. Ab den 1840er-Jahren wurden zahlreiche Patente für verschiedene Ausführungen von Glühlampen erteilt, darunter das von Edison angemeldete.
