When power goes out, so do most communications – but ham radio keeps working, serving an important #publicsafety need. Today local amateur radio operators kicked off annual 24-hour field day operations around the Conejo Valley. The object is to operate 100% on battery power for at least 24 hours and make as many contacts as possible. It's useful not only for the hams but also for the community, which ofen relies on radio links after an earthquake or wildfire.
