@RookieNerd it’s a way for sub-communities within an ActivityPub instance to federate with other subs of the same kind.

If mysite.com/c/art subscribes to yoursite.com/c/art and a new post is made on yoursite, that post will be federated to mysite as well, as the same post rather than a separate cross-post as is now the case on the #threadiverse if I want to share some news about the fediverse with the different /fediverse subs.

It makes distributed common-topic conversation less fragmented.

Interesting read about the (perceived) problem of multiple communities on different Lemmy servers.

I used #kbin & #lemmy for a couple days on a measured rate internet connection and it sucked ~2gb of my credit (half my credit for a month). Yikes. I don’t know which one did the damage but I suspect kbin since I had images disabled on the browser I used for lemmy. I guess I’ll have to step away from the #threadiverse until I find a text-based linux app for one of them.

@lydiaconwell sortof. By the nature of different software to choose what parts of the #activitypub protocol to use, some platforms don't play well with others, despite being Federated. So far #firefish, while being quite pretty and good with many things, doesn't federate smoothly with Mastodon and Lemmy, however Lemmy & Mastodon currently federate pretty well with each other. But even then, the experience can be quite different, #Threadiverse performs like Lemmy and kbin function differently in several ways to Mastodon, even though you can read and comment between the two.

Earlier this week, I got into a conversation on the #threadiverse regarding the failure of #hs2 and I brought up how successful #China has been. Immediately people started with their inherent biases. I was told how China didn't have to buy the land at the expense the #British government does and that the authoritarian government is bad. So imagine I asked one of the accusers for a source regarding their allegations and their response was essentially that it's China so duh.
