It's been a week since reinstalling
@opensuse #openSUSE #Leap on my #ThinkPad with a Seventh Gen #Intel i7 Pro. While it crawled with both #Windows #Windows11 and #Windows10, there has been NO lag at all after installing #Linux. I just tried running @whonix on it while plugged into a #Thunderbolt dock hooked up to an ultrawide monitor, and it was as snappy as ever.

Windows #OperatingSystem bloat is real, and if you've got old hardware, the speed issues are probably due to your #OS.

I can confirm that a #firmware #update for #Lenovo's #Thunderbolt4 #TB4 #dock 40B0 doesn't require a #TB4 connection to the host.

I did it using #USB3, probably it would even work with #USB2. It also doesn't require a Lenovo machine, I ran the flash program on a self-built PC.

I got a dual-mode #USB-C / #Thunderbolt dock to let me share my mouse/keyboard/screen between my laptop & #SteamDeck by moving a single cable.

Useful tip: If the Deck doesn't want to detect the external monitor, try doing a complete shutdown, plugging in the dock, and starting it up. For me at least that made it work as expected. There must be hardware detection scripts that only run at startup?

Talking with someone about upgrading their project studio setup. Anyone tried a Thunderbolt 2 audio interface on "modern" USB -3/Thunderbolt 4 ports?

A (pricey) adapter is needed. If anyone's done it, were any side effects/latency issues etc?

I have seen issues chaining through hubs, but if a more-direct connection works, the adapter is cheaper than a new audio interface, which would save some money. Interface otherwise meets their needs.
