But aside from antennas and spectrum regulations:

Neither #LTE nor #5G or any of the #GSM and related standards are designed to handle 100+ km distance.

In fact officially no range beyond 35,4km is supported and even if done with 450MHz or lower, that would not clear 200+km needed for a midterm stable orbit.

#Thuraya ist ein reines Satellitentelefonsystem und die Luftschnittstelle ist mit #GSM nicht kompatibel. Mag sein, dass die hierfür benutzten Endgeräte als Dual-Use-Geräte ebenfalls die GSM-Schnittstelle bedienen. Ein GSM-Telefon kann man aber nicht für #Thuraya verwenden.

Firmensitz von #Thuraya ist Abu Dhabi. Ich weiß nicht, ob es im Interesse Deutschlands liegt, seine internen, sicherheitsrelevanten Kommunikationswege über arabische Länder verwalten und umleiten zu lassen.
