In Friday's #ft it was reported that #accounts and #audits of #localgovernment bodies are to be brought up to date by #september next year. There have been problems since the #conservatives abolished the #auditcommission in 2015 - and it makes sense to find out as soon as possible if there are any more #localauthorities in the position of among others #croydon, #slough , #thurrock and #woking . However there are some snags to this.

An extraordinary situation has arisen with regard to the town of #Woking in the commuter belt outside #London. The local council appears to have accumulated a #debt more than one thousand (!) times its annual revenue. Most of this happened when the local #Conservatives controlled the council - it has since given the #LibDems a majority.
Problems with debt elsewhere - such as in #Croydon and #Thurrock pale into insignificance by comparison!

The pavements in #Thurrock are all iced up and nobody's coming around to grit them. Meanwhile, most of the roads are just fine. As someone who isn't a motorist, I genuinely feel like a second-class citizen. Fuck this shit.
