@Rbratspies Signed up for the Major Deegan virtual tour on 5/5. Should tie in well with #TibbettsBrookDaylightingProject in person site visit I went on.

@atthenius @capntransit What is particularly interesting is that while the original motivation was to daylight Tibbetts Brook, #NYCDOT has signed on to add or create greenway segments from Van Cortlandt Park down to #RandallsIsland. The segments are VCP to #UniversityHeightsBridge, UHB to #MacombsDamBridge, MDB to Randalls Island.

Meeting at Vervellan Place,

Starting at Vervellan Place, then walking south to adjacent 231st Street and south again to 230th then north to 238th. There would be major access at 239th. Van Cortlandt Park South is the next overpass.

Why is the neighborhood not already a destination? The only way to get here is by public transit, walking or driving. The driving option doesn't really count for anything because people who have cars in NYC don't move them unless work or vacation is involved for fear of losing a parking space. Building a great bike lane will allow more people to come here. People will 'discover' the area by serendipity.

Went to site visit for Tibbetts Brook Daylighting today at 231st in the Bronx. Amazing. So glad I went. Bummed about timeline. 2025 to start construction and 2028 to open to public. Should have been done at least 10 years ago. How many more of these exist? How many unused railroad right of ways are there out there. Just sitting. Doing nothing except taking up space.

I took a short New Years Day hike in VanCortlandt Park with two wonderful #NYC #ParkRangers. The hike made me think of the #TibbettsBrookDaylightingProject . I wondered how it would affect #VanCortlandtPark. I couldn't picture it. So I sent out an email to various people who might also be interested in learning pictorially what was planned. I'm going to try to recreate that email here.
