Finally did this classic effect in #TIC80 (241 bytes after packing, didn't try to optimize it further).
Bonus points if you can tell me the proper name of this effect, I call them "proximitors". 😄

Help, I'm building scrolling menus in #tic80. I also made the mistake of allowing menus to be multi-column, and now I'm stuck doing unreasonable amounts of maths. For every feature I implement, there are five new issues to fix.

May or may not be setting up a private kanban board for my messing around with #tic80. I'm afraid this might be escalating a bit more than expected.
Also, Lua is still very nice and comfortable. And so versatile.

Shmups are great because they are one of the easiest genres to get started with, but this took a lot longer to make than expected, because it covers lots of techniques:
- spawning bullets
- collision between bullets and enemies
- despawning on collision, out of bounds
- sound effects
- cooldown using counters
if you haven't done #GameDev before, even if you're using an engine... it's not easy!
