#Upstream is on June 7, 2023
"A 100% virtual, completely free event bringing together like-minded application developers, open source project maintainers, and the extended network of people who care most about their work."
"How do we fix the accidental supply chain that open source has become in a way that benefits both the open source creators and the organizations that rely on their work?"
Hosted by the TideLift folks.

I just received this beautiful backpack from Tidelft. I may not yet have any Tidelft subscribers for Jaybird, but gifts like these are so nice to receive #tidelift
I have had some success with paying for sponsorships as a marketing expense; but it's annoying as heck; and falls flat when I'm "marketing" to people who would *never* be customers!
Just because I use <package x> for <market segment y> doesn't mean <market segment y> even knows <package x> exists.
#TideLift helps! And we're finally to the point where a tidelift subscription may make sense... But if you're a < $10m/yr business you're basically hamstrung from funding OSS.
Thanks to Tidelift for passing on subscriptions for five packages that I maintain:

I'm the guest of #Tidelift's webinar on #urllib3, #Python, and #OpenSource supply chain security happening later today, hope to see you there: https://tidelift.com/how-the-maintainers-of-urllib3-keep-the-project-secure-and-healthy

I live in East Somerville and I mostly bike and walk to get around. I'm on the planning committee of Somerville Alliance for Safe Streets.
My dream is a world where people have reasonable car-free options to get around, and a #bettergreaterboston
I mostly tweet about infrastructure, so that'll probably carry over here. I log 311 tickets so that we can have data.
Professionally, I am a product manager at a startup, currently #tidelift #paythemaintainers

#Tidelift has published a three part series about #urllib3: the most downloaded #Python package with over 3billion/year downloads. 🤯
The series details how Quentin and I think about security, processes, tooling, and maintenance of critical #Python and #opensource infrastructure. Hope you give them a read and learn something new!

We like to go through each dependency upgrade partly for getting an understanding of what is changing and why in the project; and partly as a reminder to appreciate the labor of the maintainers who are working with us (despite being temporally and physically apart).
(Brief shoutout to both #TideLift and #RubyTogether as projects that have made huge strides in a more sustainable open source and free software ecosystem for project maintainers!)
Do you maintain an #opensource project? #Tidelift folks are running an interesting survey to learn more about the ecosystem: https://tidelift.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9SRzXPe4ulOEpRc?Q_CHL=social&Q_SocialSource=devto
