Llevo pocos meses viviendo en Arroyomolinos, una localidad lejana de Madrid y que ha crecido bastante, pero no tanto como se creía que haría. Me ha tocado una VPO con garaje, pero este aún no ha sido abierto, así que mi coche duerme en la calle y me espera calentito en agosto porque entro a trabajar a las cuatro de la tarde, vestido de traje.
Pero soy feliz porque mi grupo favorito ha sacado nuevo disco, cuatro años después de la decepción que supuso el anterior, con sus feat #Timberlake y sus feat #Timbaland, que yo creía que eran la misma persona. Lo han lanzado en una discográfica pequeña y en iTunes, donde ha copado los primeros puestos en diferentes listas. Y suena en mi coche a tope con su decena y media de temas nuevos.
Que digo "coche" y "traje" e igual me imagináis conduciendo un Audi, pero en realidad era un Clio que valía menos que la ropa que llevas puesta. No es fácil ir en transporte público de Arroyomolinos a Pozuelo sin echar medio día ahí.
El LP comienza con el primer single, un temazo que usa una fórmula muy de este grupo, pero que nunca le había salido tan bien: riff cacofónico salido de un teclado que contrasta a tope con el estribillo, muy pegadizo. Lo intentaron quince años antes con #BigBangGeneration, pero aquí lo bordan.
La premisa era hacer una continuación a #Rio, como si los últimos treinta años no hubieran ocurrido, siguiendo una idea del productor, #MarkRonson, que estaba a un par de años de volarnos las cabezas con #UptownFunk. Y lo cierto es que la idea está ahí, pero no veo este disco llegando al número uno en 1983, como sí hizo el disco que realmente siguió a Rio. En este caso hay un par de temas que parecen de serie de dibujos animados, como #BlameTheMachines o #TooBadYoureSoBeautiful, pero hay otros sublimes como #TheManWhoStoleALeopard, #BeforeTheRain o #RunwayRunaway. #Mediterranea tiene ese rollo ochentero playero, aunque la letra nos muestra a un puretilla británico soñando con esa semana que pasó en nuestra costa levantina más que el hedonismo que caracterizó los discos que publicaron en los primeros ochenta.
Desde el año 2000 han sacado seis discos (no es que se metan mucha prisa, no) y puedo decir que este es el segundo que más me gusta de esta etapa, muy cerca del primero.

The use of vocal distortion almost gives Nelly Furtado's voice an AI-like quality. It's great to see her returning to music, and her #Timbaland-produced hits still hold a special place in my memory. However, "Eat Your Man" doesn't come anywhere close to the quality of "Say It Right" or "Promiscuous." But feel free to form your own opinion and see how it resonates with you. (2/2)
