Here is the five shillings Seahorse (written as 5/- or 5 shillings and zero pence) with other George V definitives, on a parcel piece, dated 24 July, 1918. It would take 60 of the one penny stamp to equal the value of the five shilling. #gbstamps #ukstamps #philatey #timbres

Another UK Seahorse, this time 2 shillings and 6 pence, 1927 printing with a close up of the top left stamp. The value was usually abbreviated and written as 2/6 and also known as a half crown (which was also the name of a coin which I think was last produced before the 20th century). By extension 5 shillings was also known as a crown, which was also a coin, the last being a commemorative coin, produced in 1965. #ukstamps #stampcollecting #timbres

I have literally thousands of stamps to sort & put in albums. I'm going to get in to it again after a bit of a hiatus. Can't find my stamp tweezers though... French, New Zealand, GB & thematic collections (Cricket, Harry Potter & Star Wars) to work on. Always keeps me occupied & the brain ticking over nicely. Need to acquire more albums though. All good; plenty to keep me busy for the moment. #stampcollecting #stamps #timbres

Another missing colour from the 1970 UK anniversary set; they seem to have been lax with their quality controls, but then again some of these missing colours are quite hard to spot. Stamp as issued at left, error at right. Can you see the difference? #errorstamps #gbstamps #ukstamps #philately #timbres

UK 1973 3 p. Explorers issue (SG923ab), again a missing gold head this time affecting both stamps #errorstamps #gbstamps #ukstamps #philately #timbres

GB/UK 1972 5 p. Churches issue missing gold (the Queen’s head) #errorstamps #gbstamps #ukstamps #philately #timbres

GB 1969 5d (5 pence) Christmas, green omitted error. The stamp with the missing colour is at left and affects the border and the tunic of the second wiseman or king, both of which appear pale yellow-green #gbstamps #ukstamps #errorstamps #timbres #philately

This year is the 400th anniversary of the publication of the first folio of William Shakespeare’s plays. For a number of reasons he didn’t want to publish the plays - although a number were pirated, nonetheless six years after his death two of his friends collected 36 of the plays in one folio (folio means ‘large’) volume and thereby preserved them for the future generations. The stamps, here were issued in 1964 on the 400th anniversary of his birth #shakespeare #philatey #timbres #gbstamps

One of the most common issues of the Victorian period, the one penny lilac, 1881-1901; like the penny black and various penny reds billions were printed and used, and there are a number of shades from lilac to purple. This cover from August 1901 is at the end of its run. There are two dies, 1 and 2, identified by the number of dots in the corners: 14 for die 1 and 16 for die 2 with die 2 being much more common. This is a die 2. #gbstamps #ukstamps #stampcollecting #philately #timbres

UK 1980 Charlotte Brontë missing “p” error. This was my first error stamp, got while a teenager and for years, until I saw a mint copy I didn’t notice the missing p. It’s one of the cheapest and obtainable errors #errorstamps #ukstamps #gbstamps #timbres #philately

Green and lilac 9 pence on registered 1885 cover to Switzerland. Various dealers have told me the two higher (9 pence and 1 shilling) are very difficult to find on cover; this one came up recently and I jumped at it. All part of my long term plan to get all the green and lilac issue on cover #ukstamps #timbres #philately
This is my first, and far only auction purchase: GB 1970 anniversaries, 5 pence (5d.), “Declaration of Arbroath”. This example is missing the queen’s head which is usually above the value. See the normal stamp. #errorstamps #ukstamps #timbres #philately

GB 1973 famous explorers, 5 p., Sir Francis Drake, missing black (SG 925b). With normal for comparison #errorstamps #ukstamps #philately #timbres

A personal favourite: the Stanley Gibbons (SG) catalogue calls this ‘red’ on blued paper and lists it as SG12 (relying on memory), but this example is more orange than red; it’s on a 1851 Scottish cover. The orange/red and blued (apparently due to potash in the paper) are a lovely combination #philately #ukstamps #timbres
