Bon je galère avec une restauration timeshift.
Cette machine manjaro est configurée comme suit :

sda1 : esp
sda2 : système
sdb1 : /home (remplacé)
sdc1 : timeshift

Après restauration et reconstruction du grub, pas de boot. Des id#ées ?

Wenn man sich wundert wo der ganze Speicherplatz hin ist und dann feststellen muss, dass #Timeshift den timeshift-folder nicht rausfiltert. Das Problem wurde ganz schnell exponentiell

Yesterday was the day @KaisenLinux saved my … system.

During an `apt-get upgrade` my laptop ran out of disk space…
which left me with an `apt` with broken ELF headers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executable_and_Linkable_Format if you are curious).

In other words: I could neither remove software nor upgrade.
So … worst case scenario.

Luckily #KaisenLinux is using #btrfs as file system. I was able to boot from a snapshot (as Live environment) and restore from known-good state using #timeshift! Phew.

Up and running in a few hrs

Vielen Dank für die ganzen Tipps, die Würfel sind gefallen. Es gibt jetzt zwei Tools für unterschiedliche Aspekte, wobei der zweite gar nicht so direkt geplant war. 😂
- lokale Datensicherung (= home folder): #borg (#borgbackup) mit #vorta als GUI, insb. wegen Fotos und sonstigen Dateien
- Sytemwiederherstellung: #timeshift, auf einer zweiten, kleineren HDD.

Übrigens keins von beiden beim Runterfahren, sondern einfach täglich. 😉

¿Qué tal veis usar timeshift para las copias de seguridad de un servidor con Debian y las máquinas virtuales de Virtualbox?

Tengo posibilidad de reservar 1TB en un raid1 y otro TB en un disco externo usb. Mi intención es hacer copias de seguridad diarias del sistema operativo y de las máquinas virtuales.

He oído maravillas de timeshift, pero nunca lo he usado.

J’ai une copie de mon ordi sur le #NAS, et des sauvegardes quotidiennes sun un #SSD externe via #BackInTime et #Timeshift.

Plus les sous-dossiers que de données sur #nextcloud

Je pense que je garde ses sauvegardes en état et que j’en crée de nouvelles pour le nouveau ordi.

[SOLVED] I have #linux #fedora 38 and I've installed it with full disk encryption and #BTRFS. I use #timeshift to do some backups, my question is:

What if I screw my system and can't even turn it on to restore a timeshift snapshot?

I saw a video of a guy installing an app (forgot the name) that could add snapshots items to the #grub, so I could recover before initializing the OS. I tried but without success (he did on #arch in the video).

Easily substituted. Just install, configure & use #Timeshift.

OK, so that #Timeshift snapshot was never going to complete. It had apparently been working on that snapshot for over 3 hours.

I killed the Timeshift process before it completed and went to the Timeshift program to make sure my Steam folder is excluded from snapshots. It is now.

The snapshot did not appear in Timeshift though, as it was incomplete, so I had to delete it with root privileges.

It's like that quote:

#Linux lesson learned:
Don't move my Steam folder into a path that is backed up by #Timeshift.
My #Steam folder is ~600 GB and I just noticed my free space has decreased by ~600 GB.
Oops.
As soon as this system snapshot completes its operation (it's still running), I need to go add my new Steam path to the excluded paths for Timeshift and delete that snapshot.
(I wanted my /home directory to be smaller, and therefore easier to back-up, so moved Steam to /opt as it seemed a good place.)

I recently added a new SSD to my computer, to a #Btrfs filesystem. I did not use btrfs dedicated add/remove or replace commands (yes I know it was not ideal), but "dd" to copy from the original SSD to the new one. Then I erased the old SSD and extend btrfs partition (now located on the newer SSD) to the old SSD.
I'm not using raid, it's one filesystem across 2 devices (same UUID for both (?) partitions).

Since that time, #Timeshift is broken :(

Ubuntu Upgrade lief auf dem Notebook problemlos durch. Der Desktop startet nicht mehr. Zum Glück habe ich zuvor ein Backup mit #Timeshift gemacht. Ich hoffe der Restore gelingt, dass habe ich nämlich noch nie machen müssen.
