#OnThisday, in my native #Romania:

December 20, 1989: My hometown of #Timisoara becomes the first free Romanian city in the wake of the anti-communist revolution.

My Dad was one of the many unsung heroes of those days, taking to the streets to put out fires and help folks. We had to flee to my grandparents' town when the communists brought out the tanks and guns and started killing people in the streets.

My dad never got the recognition he deserved, but I'll always be proud that he did his part so his children could live free.
