Tim Rogers is an acquired taste, but one I enjoy. My favorites of his Action Button series are his series on Cyberpunk 2077, Boku no Natsuyasumi, and this one on the original Tokimeki Memorial, a guilty pleasure series of mine. I have been reading his work since like 2001 and it is a significant influence on my worldview and writing.

I can not convince you to watch a six-hour review of an anime dating sim...But I loved it. I never played the game. Yes, I do want to play it now. And I have watched it more than once.

Are there books about video game history but with added social context, for example. Sort of a #TimRogers riff where games are replaced in a broader scope.
Like, I’m not really into it if you tell me about games from top to bottom, with dates and sales etc. But if you talk about them and add the human factor, the social side of it, then gimme.
The history of DQ? Meh. The history of DQ with side talks about the crazy buying lines, the importance of it at the time etc. Then yeah.

I finally made it all the way through latest in the #TimRogers Cinematic Universe - his 6 hour review of Boku No Natsuyasumi, which, like Tokimeki Memorial, I had never heard of before. It's a heartfelt love letter to videogames and made me tear up on several occasions.
