I think we're still talking jump blues here, but you can definitely tell that rock & roll wasn't far in the future. A few months earlier, Tiny Bradshaw's band cut the first version of 'The Train Kept A-Rolling,' a rock & roll standard.

That honkin' sax was played by Rufus Gore, about whom very little is known other than he played a bunch of great sax solos on many early 1950s R&B records from New Orleans.
