Today's task: Reinstall #proxmox on the i7 #TinyMiniMicro box with ZFS.
First subtask: find a bloody pendrive...
So, like lots of folks doing #homelab stuff, I find myself #tinyminimicro curious.
They look to be just a *shade* too wide at 7.1" (-ish?) To be accommodated by 4U of rack space when mounted in the sideways/vertical orientation.
Anybody know for sure?
@chihuamaranian thanks for sharing your experience!
I’m looking at #TinyMiniMicro style of computers, which have ultra small form factor but have “regular” CPUs (mostly 8th or 9th gen Intel Core i5) and SSDs.
Form what I can read online people seem fairly happy with machines like these.

I haven’t got any hardware yet and my #homelab project is already over engineered.
I’m currently staring at a spreadsheet I made to compare the various #TinyMiniMicro computers I’ve found on eBay trying to decide which one is the best deal
TIL about the #TinyMiniMicro approach to build an #homelab: use small desktop computers instead of using power hungry servers or single board computers.
Older versions of these machines are readily available and affordable in the used market

I couldn't help myself, and bought another one 👉👈
This time it's an #Elitedesk 800 G1 featuring an i5 4590T (4 cores), for 50€.
These things are so cheap, it's compulsive buying at this point.
I'm currently at 5, I need to sell 1 or 2.

Went down a very deep rabbit hole today with DIN rail and trying to determine a way to mount a #TinyMiniMicro sized USFF machine to one. I know I can mount it parallel to the rail but I want it to stick out to better utilizes the space I have. The best I can figure out is some regular clips, some aluminum flat bar stock or even some plywood, and some L brackets that I can attach to the built-in VESA mounting holes.
#TinyMiniMicro gang ❤️
My 4 HP minis, used for various #homelab shenanigans.
From bottom to top:
- HP #Prodesk 400 G1 - Core i3 2c/4t - 16GB
- HP #Prodesk 400 G2 - Celeron 2c/2t - 8GB
- HP #Prodesk 400 G3 - Pentium 2c/2t - 16GB
- HP #Elitedesk 800 G3 65w - Core i5 4c/4t - 32GB
I cannot insist enough about how perfect these machines are for tinkerers like us.
Low power (7w in idle) but powerful, compact, and cheap as hell on the used market. (I scored the 3 lower ones for less than 50€ each)

I agree. Currently, I use gandi.net for domains, which offers 2 email inboxes (and also a cert for 1 year, but I prefer letsencrypt) and hetzer for VPS, which is affordable.
But yes, dependencies on 3rd party companies still. I'm exploring getting cheap refurbished #MiniPC to help with that. Check out https://www.servethehome.com/tag/tinyminimicro/ #TinyMiniMicro
@neil
Nice, also on to that. Maybe you want to look at this:

What model did you get and where from?

Spent yesterday evening checking and installing my new acquisition: an HP #Prodesk 400 G2 (got this one for really cheap)
Loaded it with an SSD, #debian and 16GB of RAM, it's now ready to keep company to the 2 others, G1 and G3 🙂

@alexbuzzbee idk but I want some #servethehome #tinyminimicro to kubernetes cluster, ideally 5-8 of those.
