Nice!
Windows has built in tools for this...
#PrivacyGuides recommends a few tools for Android and Linux.

Real example of Metadata mismanagement? Vice news should have listened closely to @Em0nM4stodon because it was Vice's iphone photo metadata (posted to Twitter) that revealed John McAfee's location when he was on the run 😬 !
PS - Mastodon strips metadata on uploads :)
I love your #TinyPrivacyTip s! #Privacy :masto_love:

The battle for End-to-End Encryption is going to be a very important one.
Support it.
Talk about it.
Do not believe the excuses they give to break it.

Personal Announcement :rainbowdance:🔒✨
I know everyone seems to have a blog these days but now I’m everyone too!
You can now read some of my privacy recommendations, tutorials, and general tech rantings here:
Tiny Privacy Tip 🔒:
It is not because it’s not possible to delete your data everywhere that it is not worth deleting it where you can.
Deleting the data you no longer need where you have control over deleting it effectively reduces your digital prints.
It is rarely possible to delete data entirely once it has been online. But reducing its scope is still helpful.
Don’t get discouraged by that fact.
👉 Delete what you have control over where you can.
👉 Increase your security to protect the data that remains.
👉 And demand better privacy laws to increase the effectiveness of the part you do not have control over.
But do not give up! ✊
Tiny Mastodon AND Privacy Tip 🔒🐘:
If you wish to have a regular data cleanup of your Mastodon toots (posts), which I strongly recommend, you can use the wonderful Automated Post Deletion feature!
HOW TO ❓
1. On desktop, go to Preferences > Automated post deletion.
2. Select “Automatically delete old posts” on the upper left :nes_fire:
3. Adjust the “Age threshold” on the upper right according to your preferences.
4. Select the “Exceptions” and “Exceptions based on interactions” below according to your preferences.
5. Click “Save changes” on the upper right.
NOTE: This does not guarantee that your toots will be completely deleted from the entire Internet. There are various ways in which there might still remain copies of your data online. HOWEVER, this is a FANTASTIC way to reduce your digital prints and improve your privacy overtime.
6. Magic!✨ and peace of mind 😌

Tiny Privacy Tip 🔒:
Do not give your name to your devices.
Give them their own unique unrelated name. Like Steve or Martha or CyberApple or MyMagicTinyPocketComputer ✨
Giving it your own name isn’t really helpful in any way to you, and through Bluetooth or WiFi scanning can make your name known to strangers in the vicinity you might not want to share your name with.
Giving weird unrelated names to your phones, computers, WiFi network, etc, is not only safer, it is also much cuter :awesome:
Tiny Privacy Motivational Tip 🔒:
If you ever decide to start reducing your digital prints, be patient.
Don't give up because it seems too big to achieve, take smaller steps instead. Every small step helps.
You don't need to do it all at once, it can be a long process. Be patient. Do one little thing per week.
You got this ✨
In the weeks to come,
I am going to retoot some of my older Mastodon and Privacy tips to add the hashtags #TinyPrivacyTip and #TinyMastodonTip so that they are better regrouped together and searchable in the future.
I will also continue to toot new Privacy and Mastodon tips using these 2 hashtags.
If you do not wish to see newer and a rerun of my often space-consuming tips, feel free to use Filters on these 2 hashtags to hide them from your timelines.
I will not be mad I promise 😊👍

Tiny iOS Privacy Tip 🔒✨:
On iOS, you can easily create a shortcut to remove metadata from an existing photo/image.
HOW TO ❓
1. Open your iOS Shortcuts app and click on the upper right “+” button to create a new shortcut.
2. Type a shortcut name in “Shortcut Name” at the top and click on the icon on the left to customize it.
3. Click “Add Action” > “Apps” > “Photos” > “Select Photos”
4. In the bottom “Search for apps and actions” bar, type “Convert”. In the results select “Convert Image”.
5. Click on “JPEG” within the “Convert Photos” step and select “Match Input”. Expand “Match Input” and disable “Preserve Metadata” :nes_fire: ⬅️
6. In the bottom “Search for apps and actions” bar, type “Photo”. In the results select “Save to Photo Album”.
Optional: You can switch to your Apple Photos App and create a new Album named “NO Metadata”.
Click on “Recents” within the “Save” step and choose your new album “NO Metadata”.
7. Click on the “square and up arrow” icon on the bottom menu and select “Add to Home Screen”. Click “Add” on the upper right.
8. Close the Shortcuts App and try your new custom shortcut click on the icon on your Home Screen. The image should get saved in the album you chose without metadata except for a date of creation.
9. Magic!✨
A small reminder
about Password Managers 🔒🔑:
Password Managers are good.
They are not perfect, but they are good.
They are a better solution to many dangerous password practices such as password reuse and short easy to guess passwords.
It’s important to shop for a good one, yes.
It’s also important to never trust blindly at 100% *any* organization with your sensitive information. Breaches happen and will continue to happen.
Keep the most sensitive things (bank, email, authenticator app) out of it, if it is compatible with your personal threat model.
Cherish and protect your very long and unique Master Password. Never ever reuse a Master Password. Always make it loooooonnnnnnngggggggg#@!&8LONG! 🚂🔑
Make sure the product you use implements well strong encryption and is recommended by security professionals.
Prepare well and calmly.
Slowly but continuously.
Make your security better not perfect.
All will be well 🔒✨
Tiny Security and Privacy Tip 🔒:
With this recent LastPass incident, this is a good time to remind everyone to:
1. Use passphrases rather than passwords whenever possible. Use a long phrase that is unique and only known by you 📓
2. Do not reuse passwords/passphrases, ESPECIALLY for a Master Password 🔑
3. Always enable MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication), ESPECIALLY for a Password Manager service 🔑🔑
4. Never click on a link sent to you unless you are absolutely certain of the source and it is a source you trust :blocky_white_cursor:
5. If you can, use a separate unique email address for your Password Manager account :protonmail:
6. Don’t Panic! Be prepared! 🔒👍

Tiny Privacy Tip 🔒:
You can use your Password Manager to keep track of the accounts for which you have requested data deletion.
1. Keep your login information as usual 🔑
2. Add a note with the date and the link (or email address) where you placed your data deletion request 📆
3. Add any important information to remember about your request, such as a request key/password and such 🗒️
4. Try to login again into your account once your request should have been fulfilled (giving a few extra days). If your account is still active when it shouldn’t, escalate your request :nes_fire:
Tiny Privacy Tip 🔒:
You can put a small piece of black electric tape over your home address on ID cards that you need to present often when your address isn't relevant. Easy to remove when needed ✨
