I can feel the dark in a way few can
it covers me, not a blanket
a pillow
made of gravity and meant to stop me

my cells dying, apoptosis yes
but also
the twinkling of my lights, my electricity
snuffed out
methodically

whispers like smoke floating in my skull
that become
a thunderous roar
what are you even for
wreck the hull

and carry me
one time more
arms crossed
into the waiting jaws
of the dark
that closes my eyes
and cries
victory at last

of warm arms around your pale skin.

too long and you forget
it isn’t how you are meant to be.

on my chest,
like the tinkling of a lullaby
wound up with a key,
playing its cycle
down

down
into slow silence

rows
calamitously tensed
twitching,
untended
like the summer she was
too arthritic to pick beans
the gnarled mess overtook everything
