If you look at today’s page that list of 9 ideas is good. I found 3 of them to be helpful. You’ll also see photo links to specific collections you may like. I have subscribed for 6 years now (free). Anywhere I come on good ideas 8 or more times a week-that’s a keeper! I guess this post about Jillee’s website one good thing.com is a #TipOfDay
@CadeJohnson @caregivers omg this is an incredible tip! Worthy of #TipOfDay status! Never once thought of it. Hey, I’m going to tuck a tiny snack bag in my son’s travel meds bag tgat goes with him everywhere. It’s been a problem when we are suddenly in ER say at 11 pm and we’re going to be there at least 12 hours. I can’t leave to find a vending machine for coffee. Seriously, I would do this coffee grounds “snuff” in ER.
Do you have the right pillow? I find over the years my needs have changed several times. #TipOfDay share your favorite pillow? Due to back pain now 7 months, was getting neck ache. Bad enough I spent $$ on a strange sort and OMG it works for me. I can now flip side to side and back to face down. Just because of a pillow. Also using a small wedge between my knees when side sleeping. So much better! #Pillow #Sleep
Time for another #TipOfDay for someone who doesn’t already have 5 colanders just to strain water or liquid from cooking. (Yes, I’ve been on a 20 year search for “the right kind”.) This clip-on strainer came from an Amazon sale, $6. I love it! Heavy silicone and strong clips, way easy to wash up. Shown with my prep for tuna fish casserole shared this week. I think I’m up to #TipOfDay22 now. And no, I’m not ready to pare down my collection of colanders quite yet.
An indirect #TipOfDay for melamine foam sponges. But very cheap instead of the name brand. https://www.familyhandyman.com/article/what-to-know-about-magic-erasers/
That RSS link also worked by pasting it in Safari search.
Try it yourself? Doing this I also saw the replies to that #TipOfDay post about cleaning a stainless steel sink.

Tiny victory but big for us. For the first time I tried to make a croissant egg and cheese sandwich. Guessed right! #TipOfDay is up to 19 now. And also fast. 6 minutes total for 3. Each is 1 egg fried and yolk broken, in a long strip. 1/2 square slice cheese on top. Split the rolls almost thru and tuck the filling, toothpicks to secure. 1 minute in air fryer - ta-da! $1 each.
For hot weather zones, a recycled plastic door mat is the way to go. Important that there is no rubber backing so it won’t melt to the cement! Ours is perfect for us. Under an accessible door threshold for wheelchairs. #TipOfDay This is number 16 now.
Time for another #TipOfDay and it’s up to 14. The black light bug zappers work! Flies, mosquitoes, gnats and moths are drawn to the light when it’s dark and no drafts nearby. Turns out some people are magnets for mosquitoes and this really helps inside the home. We have 3 types, this one like a tennis racket in a stand you can also detach and swing about.
#TipOfDay now up to 12.
Sanding sponge!
Discovered that the fine/coarse sanding doing for my wood rack project works fantastic for filing my nails. Instead of getting a fat nail file my hands hold the large sponge easily and I can get to the various angles I need. These are about $1 each and the combination grit sponges are all-in-one and multipurpose.
#TipOfDay now is up to 11. But no photo from me, ewww, gross. If you have a vinyl, rubber or silicone mat in your dish drain side of the sink, be sure to clean the sink at least weekly. Stainless steel sinks can hide gross buildup of food. Today called for a bit of Comet and scrubbing. Also the nub side of our gray mat hid the buildup of crud on the mat while topside looked fine. Mild bleach in water to set in that sink a bit.
Add rice
#TipOfDay
Maybe everyone thinks of this, stretching a frozen dinner to serve two by adding something. Keep extra rice on hand by freezing it in 2 cup portions. This Coconut Curry dinner is great but expensive. Break up the rice into a large bowl; microwave the dinner. Put the dinner atop the extra rice and microwave again 1 1/2 minutes, ta da. #Rice #TipOfDay8
Side story on why you should keep those rubber tourniquets tossed out after a blood draw from today’s #TipOfDay. 4 years ago my son got very angry with a caregiver. He pounded the window and shattered it. On the phone with 911, I was told to get a tourniquet. Ran for it and was instructed how to use it. Later that day emergency surgery to repair his arm with 30 staples. So glad I had one. 2/2
Quick! Get the tourniquet!!!
#TipOfDay Ever had a blood draw? Mom taught me this 55 years ago as a med tech. Ask for the tourniquet used and take home. Best jar opener help ever. Wrap tight around stubborn lid and twist. Tossed all the rubber pad-types and fancy tools. Also, a side story. 1/2 #TipOfDay7
@jeanettepizzurro I had no idea! I spent the first 6 months trying to position the lid properly, LOL. Thanks for this tip! Woohoo #TipOfDay is growing.
Cleaning window screens
#TipOfDay6
Noticed the large glass patio door and screen were rather dirty and the glass smudged. Had read not only dust but pollen sticks to the screen and would act to continue bringing it indoors. So, I vacuumed it both sides, astounded by the dust flying. Clean both sides with microfiber cloth dipped in ammonia 1:4 water. Ta da! Share back a tip? #TipOfDay
@pivoinebleue thanks for this! I’ve tried for years to remove the orange tint anything plastic or vinyl gets. This is right up the alley for my #TipOfDay theme posts. I converted to all glass storage containers because they are far easier to clean. Have to tell caregivers to not rinse pans and bowls with tomato sauce in the sink if the light colored sink mat is left in the sink.
Ah, I feel better posting this tip now that there’s a comment and a boost. Hopefully someone will benefit from this bamboo skewer tip. And please do post any kind of tip in these theme posts for #TipOfDay. We’re on Day 5 now. To find a daily tip just add the number to the hashtag above.
@CadeJohnson At first the caregivers were all “Ewww!” But it only takes a few episodes where they rapidly see the light. Now everyone counts on them. When I saw this home has the low-water volume flush toilets I was a bit worried. FYI, anyone reading #TipOfDay posts is invited to share back.
