I think businesses that don't pay their staff fully and therefore request customers give money on top of the cost to staff people directly should have to prominently announce that fact.
They should be required to have large notices on the entry to the business that they don't fully pay their staff, on their website, on any notice with prices, on any ads, etc.

If the #weather is weird this year...
If #biodiversity is in crisis now...
If this is causing massive #upheaval today...
...just imagine what it will be like if/when this happens.

Tipping never made sense to me, except perhaps as a way to show gratitude when someone goes above and beyond and really made your day better. I think businesses should just pay people a wage they can live on.
Tipping in self-service establishments just shows up how much potential there is for abuse. Staff just need to trust that businesses are being honest? Sorry, not good enough. #tipping

ETA I always tip generously; the point is that workers should be paid well in the first place.
I really hate the state of #tipping these days. I don't want to be prompted to tip the Subway sandwich builder.
"Tipflation" in the US. Surging tips for a growing number of industries (beyond restaurants). Here, an "add a tip" screen for a $3.85 coffee, with suggested gratuity amounts of $1 (26%), $2 (51.9%), and $3 (77.9%). #tipping #tip #restaurant #bar

Have to agree with the point of this article.
What are people's thoughts on this? Would love to hear from non-US people as well.

So, thoughts on #tipping in the #US.
Should employers be paying their delivery employees and waiters a proper wage such that tipping shouldn’t be needed?
Yes.
If knowing that you choose to use those delivery services or frequent those establishments and not tip are you a participant in that system that’s hurting employees?
Also yes.
Not tipping doesn’t affect the business owner in the least. It does hurt the employee that we all agree should be getting paid a fair wage.
The protest move is not to patronize the businesses in question.
Yo, bartenders and servers out there: Are y'all noticing a downtick of folks tipping?
Ridiculous that we even have to ask, but here we are.

The last week or so I'm seeing a lot of stories on #tipping and how uncomfortable it's making some people.
One article even said if the machine at Shake Shack asks for a tip it's ok to decline because that person is probably making a wage.
All them Ferraris parked in the employee parking at Shake Shack cuz the tips on top of wages really are an issue, I guess.
Just tip people in the service industry. If they do a job you don't want then maybe you should tip them.

@connersjackson @natansil I won’t boost that since it’s an exclusive Cloudflare site but I was able to reach the article here: http://web.archive.org/web/20230513032607/www.visualcapitalist.com/cp/mapped-how-much-should-you-tip-in-each-country/ Interesting that #Netherlands sets #tipping at 5-10%. Some restaurants are trying to increase that buy putting “tip 15% y/n” on payment terminals.
If you think #tipping is "out of control", blame companies that don't want to pay a living wage - not the barista making your $6 coffee. Also, if you're buying said coffee, you can afford a buck or two in the tip jar. Stop it.
