Op zijn vijf jaar gaat hij met zijn moeder naar #Elvis kijken, en zijn vader nam hem mee naar #BBKing opnamesessie. Billy geraakt zo in de ban van gitaar, en zijn ouders sturen hem naar NYC waar hij les krijgt van #TitoPuente één van de grootste bandleiders uit de jaren 60.
Op zijn 13de krijgt hij zijn eerste elektrische gitaar een Sunburst Gibson.
Hij gaat naar artschool in 1963 en begint bij zijn eerste bands te spelen, en op zijn

I saw Tito Puente in concert and of course he played Oye Como Va, but not before he made sure everyone knew that he wrote it, not Santana. I like both versions but I give Señor Puente his props for writing the song and Carlos Santana for making it his own.
