About 30 years ago, Urge Overkill released Saturation, their major label debut. It completed their transition out of the sludgy underground into a glossy 70s glam-inspired aesthetic.
Most people were introduced by their cover of "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon" featured in Pulp Fiction, but for me it was "Back on Me" from Melrose Place. Over time I obsessed over multiple tracks - but it always came back to "Sister Havana" or "Positive Bleeding" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ww-f4glTOdw
Hearing Boris for the first time in the aughts was pretty mind blowing. They seemed to tirelessly explore so many areas of metal, sludge, drone, ambient, psychedelia, etc. You never knew what you were going to get.
20 years later and "Akuma no Uta" still sounds as aggressive and accessible as ever. And it remains one of my favorite covers - a great tribute to Nick Drake.

"Burning Down the House" has to be one of the best opening tracks with its quiet buildup to the opening "Ah, watch out..." And 40 years ago today it kicked off the latest stellar studio album by Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues.
Fittingly it also closes with the beautifully satisfying "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)". And in between is brilliant art rock/funk/pop like Girlfriend is Better, Slippery People, & Swamp. A classic from a groundbreaking band.
Didn't get a chance to post a big one yesterday.
One of the first albums I purchased totally blind was Sloan's Twice Removed. They were an early discovery of mine as I began my exploration into music beyond what my sisters introduced me to. As much as I enjoyed it (and the follow-up), it was 25 years ago that their 4th album, Navy Blues, embedded itself in my CD player for weeks on end.
Yes, it's "Beatles-esque" - but most great power pop is.

30 years ago Orbital released their second album - known as either Orbital 2 or The Brown Album. I first heard it when a friend picked it up, most likely because it contained one of the few electronic songs to gain popularity here in the States - "Halcyon+On+On". By the time I was able to find my own copy, I had already picked up their (IMHO superior) third album and the US version of their debut. That didn't stop it from being another critical part of my music journey.
Lost my post praising #BoardsOfCanada on the 25th anniversary of the release of Music has the Right to Children. So let me just emphasize that it is a landmark electronic album and every time "Roygbiv" comes on I'm transported to an ideal existence.
