One of my favorite albums to spin at dorm parties which meant the vinyl got all scratched to hell. I got so much joy out of this album and heard in it a call to revolt against capitalism that just charged me up even more. But Idunno maybe that was the weed & the beer talkin cause I just looked up a buncha those lyrics & well maybe I’m an idiot. Still a great jam & a great memory & still delighted me when I listened through today.

YCCMA burst onto the airwaves & Chevy Chase in the video sealed it, I bought the cd & it was 1 of those 1stlistenfav4life’rs. Some say S&G were tame wannabe’s for squares who couldn’t handle Dylan,but Idunno spanning the decades I think PS is the true genius & this his solo Magnum Opus. The heartplucking stories, #LadysmithBlackMambazo ‘s sonic tapestry , #LindaRonstadt ’s African Skies harmonies, I mean,c’mon this is art of the highest order.

Butch Henderson bought me Destroyer for my 12th birthday. We used to slow dance to “Beth” at dances, so great but that’s the only use I had for Kiss. So i took it back to the mall & got me Rumors. To this day I think an infinitely wise decision & a coming of age of sorts because prior all my vinyl purchases were #beachboys & #beatles. 46 years later I still sing out #2ndHandNews like it’s my life. RIP C McVie, your pipes rang the prettiest.

We used to hook school & walk over to Marty’s house to smoke grass & watch this new thing MTV. Fun enough & I guess I crushed on Martha Quinn a bit but mostly I found videos stupid. But Skateaway took me in. I bought the album freshman year at UMD, right when I was getting hooked on #shakespeare & losing my hs gf every other week to other guys. So of course, R&J was all about me. Lifelong love of #MarkKnopfler deepcuts begins here.

We weren’t a terribly churchgoing family, so, I remember my parents playing this at Christmas in the early 70’s. Because it’s Jesus, right? The music grew on me & then I caught the film one Saturday afternoon on Channel 5 when I was about 12. For the 1st time saw that this Jesus thing was actually a story. An important story, & from then on I’ve puzzled the meaning of the gospels & looked for Jesus elsewhere in art (like, Cool Hand Luke).

I was born in #1965. Somewhere around #1972 I started poking through my parents vinyl stacks. This one actually belonged to my hippie uncle. The cover spooked me so I didn’t begin getting into it until I started smoking weed around age 14. And then it blew me away for years to come, as I got deeper & deeper into the music & the story. Then I saw the Woodstock footage. Man. There’s a 2012 documentary about the making of Tommy. You gotta check it out.

Amazing cover of the #TheMaker but every song is a gem you melt away to a different world to.

Last night, the evening of January 1, 2023, I didn’t feel like listening to any of my playlists. So, I chose a decades old favorite album of mine, listened all the way through. I got a little sobby at points. You kindred Nanci fans out there do this too I have no doubt.

This morning I find myself doing it again.

Maybe this is a thing I’ll do every day of 2023.
