I was so excited to see NASA's New Horizons probe go to Pluto. Always just a blurry grey speck, now we have full-colour photos of Pluto's surface. Did you know that Pluto has enough water ice on its surface to form mountains several km high?

Did you know that Eris, the reason Pluto got "demoted" was initially nicknamed "Xena" by the scientists (and they called its moon "Gabrielle", no joke 😆) until it got an official, non-90s-cult-TV-show name? Eris actually got to be the 10th planet for 2 years before being reclassified along with Pluto.

I made it to Neptune on my solar system socks! I'm at the point now where I'm counting down the rounds left before the cuff (yes, poor Pluto is going to be demoted to the cuff 😆). 20 to go!⁠

Fun Neptune fact: its moon Triton is geologically active, spewing water and organic compounds into space regularly. It’s amazing how commonly-available the ingredients for life are in our solar system!

I get a lot of complaints from people that I mostly design toe-up socks, because they have trouble fitting them. So I made patterns with formulas to help people adjust any toe-up pattern to suit their own row gauge! No more guessing and frogging. Just toe-up socks that fit!

Did you know that the best place for a human base in the Jupiter system is probably Callisto? It has lower levels of radiation than Jupiter's other major moons, and possibly a deep subsurface ocean for water.

I kind of hate making socks two-at-a-time, but... here I am, working socks 2aat. And on magic loop, which I also don't like to do? 🤷‍♀️

But for these socks this method just makes sense! This is a special self-striping yarn, designed to show the scale of the solar system and with two ends dyed to match so you can make identical socks. So I'm making identical socks! (Well, mostly. Because designer. 😂)

Heavyweight socks eat so much yarn! Fortunately, these ones are made with miniskeins, so it was easier to get a full-height sock. I have very long feet, so all my other thick socks are kind of short, but these are going to be fantastic for keeping my feet warm all winter! 😁

This sock project is sooo EXTRA and I love it sooo much. It's bringing a ton of positivity to such a negative time of year for me; I do like winter, but I don't enjoy the pitch-black dinnertimes and grey mornings of December at all. Give me -25 and bright and sunny with crunchy snow everywhere any day, but this dreary stuff? Not my thing.⁠ Freezing rain tomorrow, ughhhh.
