OK I spoke too soon about , I actually like it quite a bit. But it definitely adheres to the source material a bit too much for my liking and it's generally very hard to approach with the wacky special effects and episodic pacing. Once you get into the groove of the style though the strength of the characters and story start to reveal themselves and by the end I was very happy with the movie.

Most importantly the story of Shin Kamen Rider is not very compelling, I feel like it's a very watered down version of a more interesting story. I'm being harsh because my expectations were high, but I feel like you need to be an Anno apologist to enjoy this film which is not a good look for a that could introduce young people to a classic franchise.

They took a lot from , and strike a balance of design unity for each series, but customize each character's transformation to fit their personality.

As a very young child, I talked my mom into taking me to see Infra-Man in theaters.

It would be funny to find out years later that the film that inspired my appreciation for Japanese and cinema was in fact NOT from Japan, but instead a production from Hong Kong.

The recent reveal of the Moonfire Faire outfit in has my inner pedant roaring and gnashing against the chains I usually kept him bound in. Just in time for , it's Nommy Chomps, the plush shark monster! She's a total gremlin and I love her design, especially her hand-maws. Her design was inspired by several monsters, most notably Snizzard from MMPR. She's basically a feral plush shark plopped onto a pair of legs, with sharks for hands.
