The Edwardian fairy was associated with nature and often possessed insect wings. Cicely Mary Barker’s flower fairies came a little later, but developed a long tradition of fairies living in flowers, including Shakespeare’s fairies.

Despite later rejecting flower-fairies #Tolkien did invent flower fairy names in Qenya:
🌷 Ailinóne (ĭ): a fairy who dwelt in a lily on a pool
🌼 Nardi: a flower fairy.
🌹 Tetille: a fairy who lived in a poppy

For #TolkienTrewsday #TolkienTuesday First Age theme, here’s an extract from the Ainulindalë:
“And it is said by the Eldar that in water there lives yet the echo of the Music of the Ainur more than in any substance else that is in this Earth; and many of the Children of Ilúvatar hearken still unsated to the voices of the Sea, and yet know not for what they listen.”

London-based artist Joshua Tabti created the map of The Malay Archipelago inspired by Tolkien's style of map drawing. Created in 2021, the map took between 40 and 60 hours to complete by hand (love the mini komodo dragon).
