Thanks. I didn't many opportunities to speak with #Tombaugh.

I think it was the same occasion that he spoke of having visited Italy, and seeing places where Galileo had been. He said Galileo was one of his heroes.

I told him that as I grew up some 40 years and 40 mi from his initial home, we were read stories about him in school. And being interested in astronomy myself, HE was one of my heroes.

He kind of liked that. I'm glad I got to tell him that.

I'm from a part of Kansas not far from where #Tombaugh grew up. I got a chance to chat with him about that once.

I asked him how he went from farming to #astronomy.

He regaled me with a time when he was a boy on the farm, and he got trapped in the barn by a vicious hail storm. When it was over, he looked outside and saw their crop destroyed. He said he decided then that there must be a better way to make a living.
