A 2017 study in France showed that if you were perceived as an Arab or black male, you were twenty times more likely to be subject to a police check than the rest of the population. And the working-class neighborhoods where these revolts are taking place are severely under-resourced in terms of public services, with unemployment rates at 16-20 percent against a national average of 7-8 percent."
