Watching the end credits scroll of a documentary about the collapse of Enron, and @rigger correctly identifies from the other end of the house that Tom Waits is singing an #Ogre song:

"Joyfully reckless, inspiring and intoxicating". Darran Anderson / The Quietus review of the week: Tom Waits' Island Trilogy.
I love his work and voice, and Swordfishtrombones is pretty high up on my top 100 albums of all time.

Speaking of #TomWaits Here is a bonus #SongOfTheDay My favorite song by Tom It is called Long Way Home.

"Your love is the only thing I ever known. One thing is sure pretty baby I will always take the long way home." - From the song

The great underrated original artist I wish everyone listened to is a popeye-voiced nonsense verse-loving folk singer that should have been as big as #TomWaits
this link leads to YouTube to the song Cape Cod Girls by baby gramps.

Tom Waits - 'The Black Rider' (1993)
More #TomWaits' theatrical music for the play 'The Black Rider', based on a German folk tale and partly co-written by #WilliamSBurrows. Raw, odd, fragile at times, typically #Waits as I want him to be.

âAt the precise moment when music was becoming synthesised and digitised and sampled, he insisted on its traditions of heavy lifting. (âAnyone who has ever played a piano,â he liked to say, âwould really like to hear how it sounds when dropped from a 12th-floor window.â)â

Tom Waits - 'The Early Years Vol. 2' (1992)
More early recordings from between July and December 1971. Some were rerecorded and ended up on #TomWaits' first two official albums. These mostly acoustic versions show Waits' songwriting skills.
"I heard him doing his voice exercises once, which was kind of hilarious."
A great piece on the 40th anniversary of Tom Waits' and Kathleen Brennan's so-called "Frank Trilogy." https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/aug/20/tom-waits-frank-trilogy-reissues-swordfishtrombones-rain-dogs-franks-wild-years

Island Records/Universal Music will release remastered versions of Swordfishtrombones, Rain Dogs and Franks Wild Years on 1 September, with Bone Machine and The Black Rider to follow on 6 October
Tom Waits - 'Bone Machine' (1992)
A more rough style album, wit tremendous songs and cameos by #DavidHidalgo, #KeithRichards and #LesClaypool. Just love those angry drums #TomWaits plays here. 'I don't wanna grow up!'

Re: that last boost â the piece relates a nightmare Tom Waits once had of finding one of his records in a thrift store, which made him vowi to make records going forward that people donât want to get rid of so easily. i visit a lot of thrifts, and i look through lots of racks of vinyl. i can personally assure him he has succeeded â i never see his albums in thrifts. i certainly never tire of listening to his albums! #TomWaits #Music

'Waits mythology has it that the original beat of the opening track of Rain Dogs, Singapore, was provided by Blair, the classically trained percussion maestro, whacking a cupboard with a hammer. Is that true?
Blair laughs. âIt is actually. We had this sort of Kurt Weill accordion and oompah sound, and Tom wanted to give a sense that the world is going to fall apart. We had a look around the studio, in the kitchen and the bathroom, wondering what might give that sound, of someone trying to break the door down. There was an old dresser in one of the storage rooms. All the way through itâs me with a real hammer bashing it. We could have sampled it, I suppose, but it would not have been the same.â'
