Is #WhiteFragility not a pattern in which the focus of a conversation shifts away from discussing the harm experienced by a marginalized person, towards discussing the comforts of a person of privilege?

And is Tone Policing not *also* a pattern in which focus shifts away from discussing harms experienced by a marginalized person, toward the comforts of a person in privilege?

Tone policing nur weil einem der Inhalt des Gesagten nicht gefällt, ist übrigens dann wirklich Gewalt und auch bis zu einem gewissen Grat beleidigend.
Respektlos ist es alle mal. Einer Autist:in gegenüber ist es sogar #Ableismus, denn Autist:innen haben von der Norm abweichende Kommunikationsmuster.
Mit tone policing zwing man sie in die soziale Isolation.

Was stimmt bei Deutschen eigentlich nicht?

Wieso sind so viele nicht in der Lage eine sachliche Kritik von einer Beleidigung zu unterscheiden?

Es ist doch eigentlich ganz einfach, nicht alles was einem nicht gefällt ist eine Beleidigung, Karen.
Wenn man es genau nimmt sind von den Aussagen die einem nicht gefallen nur ein minimaler Prozentsatz wirklich Beleidigungen.

One of the beautiful things about #Mastodon is that you have a lot of control about what you see by choosing who to follow, mute and block. This leads to situations where you see more meta-discourse than discourse. For example, I've seen several people complaining about #tonePolicing, yet I've rarely if ever seen any actual tone policing. I'm sure it happens, and to have so many people complaining about it, it must be rather frequent too, but obviously in a different corner of the #Fediverse

Hi all! Our admins have added a new rule to our official server rules:

"Avoid #TonePolicing or replies that criticize *how* ideas are presented."

This rule is here in part because our server would like to help Mastodon shift away from patterns of white supremacy and toward vibrant, multiracial community.

If you see a post that breaks any of our rules, feel free to report it. However if you just don't like the *tone* of a post, we ask that you mute, block, or scroll.

Ich bin in meinen Alltag ein optimistisches, fröhliches Mensch & kann über vieles lachen, sowie mich an vielen kleinen Dingen dankbar freuen.
Aber es gibt (auch ohne Depressionen) Dinge, wozu ich nicht schweigen kann & ich muss es auch verbalisieren, wenn ich frustriert, traurig oder wütend bin.
Ich kann auch nicht ständig "Tralala" singen, Glitzerstaub ...

Here’s my suggestion to the moderators of mstdn.social: Stop tone policing people on other instances. I’m not on your instance and I’ll speak my mind as I like on my own one. If anyone has a problem with that, they can block me. It’s not your job to tone police the fediverse even if you are a mega instance.

1. It can be very difficult for my autistic self to absorb and process verbal communication that is disordered, too loud, too soft, or too abstract. Not that I cannot do it, but it requires more energy and can cause me distress. It can be very helpful at stressful times for me to request that I would like verbal communication to occur in a specific fashion. Ignoring or refusing such requests is ableism.

2. People communicate in many different ways, including verbal communication. The verbal communication I am most attuned to is that used by white, cisgender males in the US, like me. When I try to get others to communicate in the same way, I am prioritizing my privileged style over theirs. This is tone policing.

I am aware of both of these truths, but I don't really know where to take it from there. Thoughts?

im vergleich zu früher habe ich jetzt begriffe für diskriminierende verhaltensweisen: #gaslighting, #tonepolicing, #whataboutism, #bothsideism, isolation zb. es ändert leider (noch) nichts daran, dass es nach wie vor passiert und viele dem ausgeliefert sind. aber es hilft mir zb, mich nicht mehr dafür auch noch #shamen zu lassen.
