“We usually think of compassion as something sweet and nice, positive and wonderful. Everybody wants to be compassionate. And it’s true—compassion feels good. But we overlook the fact that compassion is also essentially a painful feeling. Feeling another’s pain as our own is painful. And it turns out that it’s impossible to take in the pain of another unless we are able to take in our own pain.”

@sfphotogirl I’ve heard that when I’m out of sorts, a wise antidote is to do something kind/helpful for another person — whether tangible/intangible or shared/private.

In esp. difficult times I’ve found practice to be beneficial — Pema Chödrön is an excellent teacher — it helped me cultivate compassion for all who suffered as I did (therefore, self-compassion too) & allowed me to experience generosity even when I felt I had nothing to give.

Using his oven as a heater. This is the same guy who takes his smoke deterctor or to burn smudge and conduct rituals. Sometimes his incense gives me coughing fits and smells really weird. Other times the scent is a lovely Himalayan treat for the senses. practices as taught by = breathe the good and the bad in, breathe the good out. Does not quite work from the perspective of medicine, however.

Poor guy is being evicted after being caught pulling his smoke detector a dozen times. I was ready to campaign to save him from eviction but it is a lost cause.

Society needs a halfway measure though he needs options aside from and shleters.

@BuddhismNow

Indeed.

walk slowly, walk mindfully, walking silent chant, running meditation …

My favourite is probably in a circle at speed

Or the cloak of visualisation whilst strolling, similar to meditation in some schools

I tend to modify modify the whilst walking, more like

Also do puja whilst walking

Today I went in search of salt for a purifying icing ritual for falling angels/bodhi

Pema Chödrön teaches us “sending and taking,” an ancient Buddhist practice to awaken compassion. With each in-breath, we take in others’ pain. With each out-breath, we send them relief.
