My best friend in High School spent a year in Switzerland (his dad was swiss and had regular sabbaticals, which worked out nicely for his family) which was where he came across a CD pressing of Tony Ashton & Jon Lord's 1974 "First of the Big Bands." I dubbed a copy as a dutiful Deep Purple fan but I didn't listen to it a ton at the time.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a used copy on vinyl a couple of years ago, and I've gained a better appreciation for it. (I *always* really liked 'Band of the Salvation Army Band' though)
