One of my all time favorite #Baseball players. #TonyGwynn was one of the, if not THE, best hitters in #MLB. He played his entire 20 year career with the #SanDiegoPadres he had 541 plate appearances against ⚾️#HOF pitchers and only struck out 26 times! That would be unheard-of in today's game.

Tony was also a great person off the field. #GiveBack

Padres RF Tony Gwynn, the best contact hitter of his era, died June 16, 2014 at 54.

Too many hitting achievements to mention but he was prouder of his five Gold Gloves because his defense was not as good and had to work harder to improve.

His son Tony Gwynn Jr. has a very similar voice on the #Padres radio broadcast.

This homerun off David Wells in the 1998 #WorldSeries against the Yankees made my jaw drop.

#OTD in #Baseball one of the greatest hitters in the history of the game, #TonyGwynn went 5 for 5 in a 7 - 3 win over the Cubs.

I was lucky enough to see him play in several games and all I can say, he had the smoothest swing that I've ever seen.

And thankfully, didn't have to watch #TonyGwynn beat my team, by the mid 90s he had one clutch hit after another.
