@shoq @Green_Footballs yes, please! Also keep an eye on the #fediact and #FediAct, which does a lot of what #tootski does, but better. :)
I feel strongly that a great browser extension should be a core part of the Mastodon experience, to help knit together disparate servers. "Install a browser extension to help" ought to be something that new desktop users hear along with hashtag and alt-text advice.
@Green_Footballs ooh, interesting! I'd love to see how you're doing this; I had a please-include-a-hashtag reminder in the first version of #tootski but I pulled it because it was breaking things.
@feditips @podkaynelives @PleaseCaption to that I will add: if you’re a desktop user, consider installing a browser extension such as #tootski or #fediact to help smooth out the edges between Mastodon servers.
Tried #tootski and it's actually made my fedderated world a little bigger.
I don't have to copy and paste URLs to share or favourite things now so it's a lot easier for me to see and share things from users that this instance hasn't federated with.
I can just do it from the instance page I'm looking at if I'm looking at it from another domain's URL (or the original source).
Love that.
Just shipped Tootski 0.0.3, which adds a Use Tootski button for replies; click to open the post in a new tab on your server, all filled in and ready to go.
Firefox landed instantly; Chrome is under review.
I love the smell of a panicky redeploy in the morning....
Removed the hashtag reminder from Tootski, which was causing an annoying front-end crash after posting a DM. Look for 0.0.2 in your Firefox shortly; Chrome to follow.
Keep an eye on https://tootski.dev for more thrashing about!
Just put Tootski up on Product Hunt; upvotes appreciated!

Good news, everyone: Tootski is ready to try out on Firefox. Chrome has yet to release; please see the explainer at https://tootski.dev for details.
That thing where you submit the first version of your browser extension and start waaaaaiting for a reply. #tootski #webextensions
Element.animate() let me add a custom animation from a browser extension on pages whose content security policy made it impossible to add CSS keyframes.

Now I'm trying to get Tootski to push a copy/paste URL from a foreign instance into my instance's Search box.
Adding ?text=myNewThing to several different Mastodon paths (home, publish, share, my username) will make myNewThing pop up in the main textarea.
I can't figure out if the equivalent parameter name exists for Search. (I've tried ?q=findThis and that's not it.)
Pointers to docs or the repo gratefully accepted!
Does anyone know of a software license forbidding its use for cruel purposes? I would like to include one with Tootski.
@vincent here is a bit of demo video showing Tootski, a browser extension that helps you boost, follow, and favorite from outside your own Mastodon instance. Does this seem like it would be helpful? (Tootski will of course also feature a button that will let you share a page from where you are, just like the bookmarklet.)

Does anyone know how to deep-link directly into the Mastodon mobile app? Perhaps there's something like a masto:// link prefix with a path to a sharing endpoint I can use?
Tootski is a bookmarklet that will share the page you're on to your Mastodon instance, including the title, address, and any text you may have selected.
