From my privileged, communication-theory heavy, perspective simply choosing to use Mastodon, choosing not to use problematic platforms that trade privacy and civility for profit, and interacting with people who are diverse in every sense of the word based on common interest instead of judging, finger-pointing, and shaming are all political acts shaping our future for the better. Maybe this is just me, but the reason I feel this is a real problem, is that in comparison to the first couple of weeks, I haven't boosted as much myself. That seems like an issue, since that's the way Mastodon is set up, and relies on that. I dread the multiples, and subconsciously think 'I won't boost this, because most of my followers will have seen this already.'

Wild idea: How about a 'seen' flag on posts?

When you follow a lot of similar minded people, they will boost a lot (and I mean A LOT *sighs*) of the same posts. If a post would get flagged as seen the first time it gets fetched, and ignored after that (or for a set amount of time maybe? or as an optional setting?), that would make the TL so much nicer.
