So I had #TopSurgery #DoubleIncision with #NippleGrafts roughly 3 years ago now. I will say my surgeon did a really good job on the nipple grafts. In my humble opinion.

Hi, Mastodon! I am writing my thesis for my Master's in Social Work. Originally, I wanted to focus on butch women obtaining top surgery.

Now, I want to look at how the trans community navigates/negotiates/pressures the medical community into creating a more expansive view on gender and a less medicalized view of gender dysphoria. (ie, viewing dysphoria as a social problem, not psychological.)

Gotham Knights: #trans #LGBTQIA #representation

Last night I watched Tuesday's Gotham Knights, and a character said she was doing illegal things because bad guys had kidnapped "her family". That phrasing, instead of "my husband and kid" or equivalent, made me think it likely she had a wife, and voilà, that's who our heroes ended up helping her get back. I like how common non-cishet characters are on this and other (almost gone now) live-action DC TV shows. So I'm reposting something that I've no evidence anyone saw three weeks ago. Thus:

Television shows on the CW tend not to be high literature, but their hero shows do seem to do representation. Two weeks ago Dreamer, a trans woman superhero with dream-plus powers (originally on Supergirl, played by a trans actress), was a guest star on The Flash, in what some are seeing as backdoor pilot for a spin-off show. (Somewhere: the CW is not in good shape.)

Tonight on Gotham Knights, Harper and her trans brother Cullen (played by a trans actor), have an argument about Harper working with the Mob (excuse me, "The Family"), which she had kept secret from Cullen. Later, after the sibs and the rest of their team of reluctant teen heroes escape from The Family and the cops (who are chasing them since they've been framed for murdering Bruce Wayne slash Batman), the two have a conversation.

Cullen asks why Harper was working with the lead mobster's son, and she admitted she'd done it for him: to pay for his top surgery. Cullen said she'd told him she'd stolen the money from their abusive father, and Harper replies (paraphrased) "as if there was anything left after the drugs and booze." Harper said that she and Cullen had escaped their horrible father, but Cullen was still trapped by his body, so she had to do something about it.

It's the first time *I've* heard top surgery mentioned in a scripted TV show.
