It’ll be several sessions before we wrap up our current campaign. Thinking about proposing either #Torchbearer 2e or #ForbiddenLands for the next campaign. Many factors to think about, but I enjoy the evaluation process.

Getting 12 successes on a roll in #Torchbearer is a delightful experience.

Trying to play #Torchbearer Solo has been less than ideal.

The game is great, don't get me wrong, but the main conflict mechanic really has a rock paper scissor aspect to it that really doesn't work solo.

So tonight, I plan to reread #Ironsworn and its expansion Delve, and give it a fresh go. I had enjoyed it last time I tried it, but dropped it because family life got in the way.

I just need to sneakily print dozens of pages on the office's printer, no biggie.

@deinol That depends on what you're focusing on. if it's mainly the gritty feel and the blasted landscape, #GURPS After the End should do well or #ApocalypseWorld (on the other side of the spectrum). Though both of those are SF, of course.

If you're just going for high lethality and actually making it hard for characters to survive, you might want to look at #Torchbearer or #FiveTorchesDeep, though I haven't really played those. You can make any RPG arbitrarily survival-like by focusing on realistic healing and resource scarcity, but some take more fiddling than others.

I have asked #chatGPT to generate characters for #burningwheel ,#torchbearer and #mouseguard and it delivered. For years I have used donjon.bin.sh as GM assistant, however recently I found chatGPT very useful for random generation of system-specific things.

So last night me and my group managed a unicorn within TTRPGs. We wrapped up a fortytwo (42) session long online (Discord, Roll20)Torchbearer 2e campaign. Not only that we managed to work with adult schedules (most of us 30+) and the group that started the campaign ended it. No dropouts, and it took us "only" 55 weeks. Roughly 75% of planned sessions actually happened! That is including skips for holidays.

I am impressed with us.

@rpgmatch My favorite gritty fantasy game is Torchbearer - challenging environments, risky rolls, death on the line for PCs. And quite outside the mechanics, "adventurers" in the setting are disreputable, dangerous folk, outsiders and ne'er-do-wells.

Got back to our #torchbearer campaign tonight. Won a Drive Off conflict against a rival adventuring party, secure a magical curse-breaking pearl from a sea spirit, and then the Theurge demanded that the spirit give him access to the artifact locked away in its temple. Good times!
