“Symbolic Geography 3 (Hypershape)” by #TorkwaseDyson is like a maquette for lost earth art. The diagrams turn over paint and support built like a landscape & the dimensionality of the #painting changes as the viewer moves around and through it.

More on #TorkwaseDyson at Pace Gallery. These #paintings integrate constructed elements akin to #architecture. The scale shifts between intimacies of the surface and the projection of space; subtle gestures and diagraming direct the eye’s movement through the work as built, physical elements delineate macro structures that expand into larger geographies…They move from body to architecture to #community.

Still thinking about #TorkwaseDyson at Pace. “Liveliness (Multi-Scalar Motion 1)” has me thinking about a #painter’s inversion of Serra, instead of using undifferentiated mass to affect space working outwards, this #sculpture uses the articulation of space to draw the viewer into the surface as a #painting. Despite the scale, the work diagrams interior relations, relating to #infrastructure rather than #monument.
