So I guess folks in VA, MD, PA, DE, NJ & NY now should be looking into strong rooms and/or shelters for tornados.
For those who donโt know, we donโt often have basements in this region. Most newer homes are slab on grade.
(Strong rooms are simply a normal room with extra framing etc etc to stay intact & protect from debris)

With the devastation in Mississippi from recent tornadoes still very fresh, this is as good as time as any for a refresher on where the safest places are should a twister threaten your area. Getting shelter immediately is #1 priority. #TornadoSafety @weathernetwork

๐ช๏ธ#TornadoSafety Tip โ When taking shelter, remember this: GET IN. ๐ GET DOWN. โฌ๏ธ COVER UP. โ๏ธ
๐Go to the lowest floor of a building (an underground shelter/basement if possible). Get under a sturdy table or a stairwell. Cover up with blankets & pillows.
๐ช๏ธ#TornadoSafety Tip - Mobile homes, manufactured homes, RVs, and homes on stilts are NOT safe places to shelter from a tornado. Go to a sturdy building like a neighborโs house or community storm shelter! ๐ #SeverePrep
๐ช๏ธ#TornadoSafety Tip โ Got a helmet? โ๏ธ Use it to protect your head while taking shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor.
