Former New Zealand PM To Combat ‘Online Extremism’ In Newly-Created Office

Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was appointed special envoy for the Christchurch Call and will work with international groups and social media companies to target extremism.

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins announced the appointment move on Tuesday. The Christchurch Call was established during Ardern’s tenure, following the attack on two mosques in Christchurch in 2019, which saw 51 people killed.

Ardern stepped down as prime minister in January and said she would not seek re-election to parliament, despite her high favorability.
