I don't believe the West wants to "keep up", that would require us sliding further backwards.
Human Rights are the corner stone of Western society. They should be enhanced, not degraded eg Australia's #raisetheage issue (children as young as ten are incarcerated).
If we maintain and build on Human Rights we have something to protect. If we regress many will doubt we have anything to protect.

I wonder how this have worked out without their great leader Zelensky.
