Desperately seeking: a decent #trackpad for my #iPadMini (6th Gen). The Apple Magic Trackpad is _excellent_ but simply far too large.

I’ve tried several different trackpads and keyboards-with-trackpads and most of them are absolute garbage in comparison. Either the gesture support is minimal/non-existent or the feel is just wrong.

The sole exception is the trackpad on the keyboard case Logitech makes for larger iPads. It’s actually pretty good and supports nearly/¿all? gestures.

#continuity feature request for #apple...turning the #iPad into a magic #trackpad. The #iPadMini would be perfect for it. All they'd need to do is add the amazing vibration motor and it'd basically mimic the trackpad.

As much as you can get done with a #phone, it's still a much better #consumer than #creation tool.

TIL you can't have "natural" scrolling for the macOS ventura trackpad, and legacy scrolling for the mouse. that's how i've always had them set, but i went a long time without a mouse. when i finally plugged one back in - having gone from big sur to ventura - i've spent my day chasing after wrong-way windows. there still are separate switches in the mouse and trackpad control panels, but now they change the same setting and can't be different

Does anyone has any experience with Remote Mouse (https://remotemouse.net/) software? I have an old iPad lying around and I started thinking that it would probably be useful as a big trackpad for my Linux/Windows machines. Kinda have a second life before turning into e-waste.

I don't think I really realized, until wearing good noise-canceling headphones, that all of the #haptics of the #Apple Magic #Trackpad 2 are faked with speakers. There's no physical click, just a speaker that says "click" when you press it hard enough. Cover your ears, and you lose the sense of when you've clicked!

@gllmr Je suis très sensible à la qualité des #trackpad. Il y a un an, j'ai enfin trouvé des laptops qui me procurent le même niveau de confort que les trackpads des MacBook.

I have a Moft trifold one currently but the key layout and trackpad latency could be improved.

@todd I tested once more with the #MacBook Pro #trackpad and with a Magic #Mouse connected to my #Mac mini; both have the same behavior.
If I click inside the little circle and start dragging while holding down, it drags the entire item.
When I quickly start dragging from inside the little circle, it does nothing, yet if I start dragging just a bit outside the little circle, it selects the item text.

So I'm moving back and forth between my 'work' laptop (a Macbook Pro I've literally worn the keys off of), and my 'new to me' linux laptop (Thinkpad running Ubuntu).

No real speedbumps, but I have the thinkpad configured for 'tap to click'. When that doesn't work on the MBP, I keep thinking the mac has locked up.

(No, won't enable it on the mac. It has a tendency to get 'false clicks' from my wrist).

Regarding the continuing #iOS-ification of #macOS, I’ve come to the conclusion that the gap between advanced and general use will only widen with time. If there was a credible alternative to macOS on a laptop that gets all the basics right, I’d jump on it. A #Linux #desktop isn’t it. #HiDPI support is inconsistent, while external monitor support, suspend-and-resume and power optimization are all hacky at best. #Trackpad support is plain bad. I don’t want to have to be a mechanic to drive a car.
