Does the Trader’s State of Mind really matter?

I have heard this argued both ways. It is argued that the trader’s state of mind, or more formally, the psychology of a trader, is less critical for success in a world of algorithmic trading. It is also argued that a trader’s state of mind is the most critical factor in a trader's success…period.
