The former Howden's Works on Scotland Street. Founded by James Howden in 1856.
These buildings were constructed at the end of the 1800s and they're one of the last Victorian heavy engineering works left in Glasgow.
Here, they built everything from the boilers for the ill-fated RMS Lusitania to the boring machines for the channel tunnel.
These works finally closed in 1988, but the company itself continues.

The rear elevation of rhe refurbished Beco Building on Kingston Street in the Tradeston area of Glasgow.
I think the developers (Stallan-Brand) have done a great job of preserving the more architecturally unique front elevation and this view is still quite interesting, even if it won't be to everyone's taste, without imposing too much in the underlying structure of the building.

The integration of the B-Listed Kingston House, built in 1878, into the new Buchanan Wharf development by Stallan Brand in the Tradeston area of Glasgow.
This was one of two listed buildings preserved in some way as part of this development.

The central pediment on the Scottish Cooperative Wholesale Society building on Morrison Street in Glasgow.
It features sculptures by James Alexander Ewing representing 'Justice and brotherhood as having brought commerce from the four quarters of the Globe' (Ewing's own description).

The former Victoria Grain Mills in the tradeston area of Glasgow. Designed by W F McGibbon in an ornate Flemish Style, it was built in 1894 for Hamilton and Manson, grain millers.

Originally created by James Alexander Ewing in 1897, when it was removed in 1996, it fell apart as the concrete it was made from crumbled. In 2016, a replica made by Kenny MacKay was replaced on the building due to the efforts of Bill Ritchie.

Today's animal from Glasgow's architecture comes from the front of the Scottish Cooperative Wholesale Society building on Morrison Street in Glasgow. I love the way the lion's head grows organically out of the foliage.

The Beco Building on Kingston Street in the Tradeston area of Glasgow.
Originally built in 1878 as a warehouse and showroon for a Draper named Robert Kerr, this beautiful B-Listed building was, until recently considered at risk of being lost. It was even slated for demolition in 2008. It now forms part of the new Barclays Bank campus on the south bank of the Clyde.

Former Clydesdale Paint, Colour and Oil Works, Cook Street, Glasgow. Designed by H and D Barclay and buit in 1888. I love the Romanesque tower. It's one of a series of such towers you can spot around Glasgow, all from around the same era.
