If every sign has to be put well out of the way of #drivers hitting it with their car, and everything that goes in the roadway needs to be forgiving of being run over with a car, is it any wonder that cars are out of control? City #trafficEngineers need to throw away the highway design manual and figure out how to design streets with obstacles that will break drunk people's cars, and the cars of reckless scofflaws.
Yesterday while standing at one of the locations of car-on-bike crash reports, we saw drivers violating traffic laws like 2-3 per minute, within 10 minutes one wrong-way driver who went around a median and past a do-not-enter sign, then made a 3-point turn on the two-lane one-way couplet she had just entered from the wrong end 🙃 #trafficEngineers still blaming the user for this error I'm sure.
@hembrow @straphanger It doesn't quite work that way because some hills are punishingly steep, and e-bikes make most 5-10 mile trips accessible regardless of the negligence of our #trafficEngineers and bike-hostile politicians. I'm in better physical and financial health thanks to e-bikes over the last decade, where some trips (many hauling kids, and on a tight schedule) would have been too much to do manually in a day and yet we've been able to live happily without a second car.
