On May 23rd, 1838, the forced removal of the Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek) Nation, Seminole, Chickasaw, Choctaw and other Native American nations officially began - a land theft, massacre, and attempted genocide known as the Trail of Tears. Approximately 60,000 people were displaced of whom up to 6,000 died on the Trail.

Carbon dating of archaeological artifacts shows that the site predates Göbekli Tepe (a Neolithic archaeological site in Turkey) by some 5,000 years, the Tower of Jericho by 9,000 years, Stonehenge by 12,000 years, and Persepolis by 14,500 years.

I hope that they are successful! This battle was the end of the tribe and sealed their fate to eventually be sent to #Oklahoma on the #TrailOfTears. It also, through #AndrewJackson’s bad faith treaty, lead to the formation of the state of #Alabama on their stolen land.

3/26/1839 - The Cherokee Indians came to the end of the “Trail of Tears,” a forced march from their ancestral home in the Smoky Mountains to the Oklahoma Territory. General Winfield Scott, under orders from President Andrew Jackson, arrested then drove the tribe’s members through the winter, leaving 4000 dead along the route.

One the greatest differences between the Mvskoke and invading colonizers was that Mvskoke society (like most Natives) was matrilineal.
Patrilineal/patriarchal colonizers never quite figured out they were dealing with the wrong people and a better way, or if they knew, forced their less than effective arrogance anyway.

Generally, colonizer history says hundreds of years when Mvskoke history say thousands of years.
This is something to remember, even the best non-Native historical documentation has built-in bias and inaccuracy doing its best to erase or minimize Natives.
