Continuing from last week on Dutch sprinters: After the SM '90s failed and were discontinued in 2005. The same year, NS placed an order for the Sprinter LightTrain, based on the reliable Baureihe 425. Three years later the first trainsets were delivered for testing.

I wasn't alive when the trains stopped running here in West Cork but there are enough reminders remaining to make me regret this short-sighted decision - bridges, tunnels, etc. How different it would be if we still had the use of trains criss-crossing the country - tourism, commuting, reduced pollution.
