My heart hurts so much.

This is not okay.

Nobody should live in fear of being killed just for existing. It makes no sense whatsoever.

🏳️‍⚧️ Flags and fine words for the #TransDayofRememberance are nice but what we need is for people to stop acting like spreading the hate and lies that lead people to kill us is 'a debate' or a 'both sides' issue.

We need healthcare without having to save a fortune and/or wait years for treatment we *need*. Hormones are not some cosmetic luxury, they are vital to our well-being. Ditto surgery.

And we need the right to determine who we ourselves are, not be forced to live as who we aren't.

On this #TransgenderDayofRemembrance I would be remiss not to acknowledge that I have a great privilege being a white trans woman built like a linebacker. I do not fear for my physical safety and have had no issues in person. I do however deal with hate online almost daily. It enrages me that so many of my trans sisters have died senselessly just for being true to themselves. The world is full of anti-trans and anti-lgbtqia+ rhetoric that needs to be fought ferociously. #transdayofrememberance

My heart is broken for all affected by this unnecessary tragedy in Colorado Springs.
We all need to wake up to the fact that this hate and intolerance is being taught at home, at school, everywhere, and it’s going to require all of us to make it stop. Hate is not something people are born with—it’s something people learn.

I wanted to write a positive message for the Trans Day of Rememberance, but that is already hard enough since this day honors the memory of victims of transphobic murder. Then a young man shot and killed 5 people at an LGBTQ nightclub that was hosting a drag show. There are three positives here: people in the club fought back and "prevented further violence", the police arrived within minutes of the 911 call and the suspect is still alive.
