New Metrics for a New TTC
https://stevemunro.ca/2023/09/11/new-metrics-for-a-new-ttc/
With the changing of the guard in the Mayor’s Office and a shift in the political balance of the TTC Board, it is time to blow the dust off of the metrics in the TTC CEO’s Report and elsewhere. I have written about aspects of this before, and will not belabour earlier arguments. However, in […]

"BART begins retiring legacy trains from its fleet" by @NBCBayArea - So-called "Fleet of the Future" cars will be full BART fleet starting Monday. Also shorter trains at less-busy times. Some legacy cars may augment capacity for a while. https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/bart-begins-retiring-legacy-trains/3314193/ #BayArea #transit
#onthisday in 1932, the #nyc owned Independent Subway System (#IND ) began operation. The #8thavenue line (today served primarily by the #Atrain ) ran from 207th Street to Chambers Street in #manhattan. #vandalism and #theft at some #uptown stations caused some exit closures at 96th and 103rd Streets. In February 1933, IND #subway service was extended to #brooklyn. #otd #mta #newyorkcity #transit #history #masstransit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independent_Subway_System

#ottcity #transit #justice Even after 7 PM today #octranspo was diverting buses from the transit-way east of Lincoln Fields so the wealthy Island Park residents can have 'bike days' on it.
#ottawacity Think of how many hundreds of busses are diverted every weekend, delaying thousands of riders and burning millions in extra fuel.
This is not climate action or resource equity.

This month I have a couple of appointments that are 45 minutes away by car or 2+ hours away (depending on time of day) by public #transit, including a stretch that's not especially safe for me (in my wheelchair) and my kid, between transit station and destination.
We can't wait for the passengers. We need to build robust public transit *first*.
TTC Chair Seeks Director of TTC Policy
https://stevemunro.ca/2023/09/09/ttc-chair-seeks-director-of-ttc-policy/
An unusual advertisement appeared recently on the website of Councillor Jamaal Myers, the new Chair of the TTC Board. Myers seeks, in effect, an assistant to the Chair with the title “Director of TTC Policy”. The position would be within his Councillor’s Office at City Hall, not within the TTC organization. The Director of Transit […]

Sometimes I have a hard time following through on my convictions when the time comes.
I made plans last week to take my bike and the bus to work today. Since it’s Saturday, I don’t have to take Phoebe to daycare, so I’ve got plenty of time to get to the bus station. That’s good, because the Saturday service is only once an hour, instead of once every 45 mins.
The hourly service is just one of many small reasons I’m having a hard time going multimodal to work today. 1/?
